5 Foods You Should Never Keep in the Refrigerator

5. Honey

Honey is one of the few foods that’s genuinely shelf-stable forever, and the fridge does it no favors. Its low moisture content and natural acidity make it inhospitable to bacteria on its own, which is exactly why archaeologists have found edible honey in ancient tombs. Refrigeration, though, speeds up crystallization, turning smooth honey into a thick, grainy mess that’s a hassle to scoop or pour. Keep it in a sealed jar in the pantry instead, away from direct heat, and it’ll stay liquid gold indefinitely. If it does crystallize anyway, a warm water bath brings it right back no need for the freezer or fridge at any point.

The fridge isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution some foods genuinely last longer and taste better when you leave them out. A few small changes to where you store things can mean less waste and better flavor across the board.
